D. 202 students earn top prizes in Plainfield library story contest

District 202 elementary school students earned seven of the nine top prizes in the Plainfield Public Library’s annual Short Story Competition.

The Short Story Competition is open to third through fifth grade students. The young authors had to write an original story in 500 to 600 words. Students from District 202 and other area schools submitted 94 entries in all.

The Plainfield Public Library held a finale on Saturday, March 3, 2018 for all competition participants.

Author Chris Rylander judged this year’s event.

The winning District 202 students, and their stories, are:

Third Grade

  • 2nd – A Friend for Bubble, by Fiona Terry -- River View Elementary
  • 3rd – The Present, by Marley Ingram - River View Elementary

Fourth Grade

  • 1st – One Step At a Time, by Madison Caldwell – Ridge Elementary
  • 2nd – Shannon’s Big Scary Moment, by Zaynah Khan – Eichelberger Elementary
  • 3rd – How Reindeer Learned to Fly, by Lily Klosowski – Lincoln Elementary

Fifth Grade

  • 1st – The Creature of the Night, by Harry Kidonakis – Lincoln Elementary
  • 3rd – Honey, Where is My Arm? By Connor Orr – Liberty Elementary

Booklets with the winning submissions as well as the names of all the students who participated in this year’s competition are available at the Plainfield Public Library.
