Plainfield Fest is right around the corner!
This year’s celebration will include a special opportunity for children and individuals with special needs to enjoy the carnival before the crowds arrive.
On Friday, July 17, from 3:30 - 4:30 p.m., the carnival will offer a sensory-friendly hour with slower ride speeds, no flashing lights and quieter surroundings to help create a more comfortable experience for everyone.
Admission to Plainfield Fest during this special hour is free for participating individuals with special needs and their parents/guardians (ride tickets are required).
This year’s Plainfield Fest runs July 17-19.

Lincoln Elementary School fifth graders publish a collaborative novel
Lincoln Elementary School fifth-grade students have completed a yearlong collaborative writing project culminating in the publication of a student-written novel, The Girl in the Garden.
Using the BoomWriter platform, students wrote one chapter at a time throughout the year, with anonymous weekly voting determining which chapter advanced the story.
The class completed 14 chapters by the end of the third quarter, then each student created an individual ending before working together for a month to revise and edit a final class version.
The project concluded with a Publishing Party, where families joined students for a book signing celebration. A printed school copy was also donated to the Lincoln ES library for future students.
Fifth-grade teacher Jordyn Connors said the experience highlighted students’ creativity and collaboration.
“There is nothing quite like seeing the imagination and collaboration occurring in a close-knit fifth-grade classroom,” said Connors. “They did not just study literature, but they worked incredibly hard to create it.”
She added that the celebration helped students see themselves as authors and storytellers with the power to impact others.

Our administrative professionals are the backbone of this district. They are the first voices families hear when they call, the steady hands that keep our schools running, and the quiet problem-solvers who make everything work behind the scenes. Their dedication, professionalism, and care for our students and staff do not go unnoticed. You are valued, you are appreciated, and this community is better because of you. Thank you for everything you do — every single day.

The free event featured nearly 50 booths led by parents and staff celebrating cultures from around the world through food, art, music, clothing, performances, and interactive displays.
Students were at the center of the celebration, taking the stage to proudly share their cultural identities.
From drumming to traditional Ukrainian dance, each performance highlighted the diverse perspectives and talents that enrich District 202 schools every day.
The event brought together students, families, and staff in a shared celebration of community and connection.
“At the end of the day, our students are the heart of our district,” said Cindy Castanon, Director of Multilingual Education at District 202.
“Seeing them share their cultures and traditions so authentically reminds us why we do this work. They are the heartbeat of everything we strive to achieve in District 202.”

We are #202proud to recognize and thank our 93 social workers for the incredible support they provide to our school community. As National School Social Work Week closes, we appreciate the vital role they play in our schools with our students, parents, and staff.
